Sick Day
What first seemed like insomnia at 1:00 this morning quickly metamorphosed into body aches, chills, and heat under the skin. I got my flu and covid vaccinations yesterday, and they knocked me out. I slept on and off all day. Limped to the bathroom after drinking another glass of orange juice. This was the cycle of my day.
The neighbors hired a tree service to cut down and chop up their trees. It was this racket to which I fell asleep around the time I should have been leaving for work. I had hoped to read my new Taft biography, but I didn’t feel well enough to read. I listened and fell asleep to several audiobooks, watched some Netflix, and ate some chicken and noodles I made last night when I felt great.
I still marvel at what it’s like to live alone twelve years later. What it’s like to be sick and alone. I didn’t have a caregiving partner, but there at least had been another person in the house who could monitor my condition. There’s more to say about this but not tonight.
I still don’t feel great, but I feel much better than when I woke up this morning. I have managed to do two loads of laundry. I’m calling it a night.
